Ever be in the break room at work and the others cluster together talking as if you are not in the room?

I can't guess your age, but hope this might help, ignore politenessrules somewhat if they hold you back,
- 1.don't care
- 2.talk when theres an opportunity as if you were in the conversation, somewhat you are bc they don't hide from you.
Sometimes one is taken for granted or decor-piece, but it isn't necessairy downputting, you have a choice in the interpretation, take it easy, try being gracefull.

They tend to do that. In public places or at private parties they tend to migrate towards each other and form clusters, but I have yet to understand what they're formed from. At first I thought it was similar hobbies but then I realized they don't really have anything in common. It's based entirely on how "social" you are. Within these clusters a power structure is formed, so the more powerful expects constant respect and attention, while the lower ones will have to cater to them. If you or I attempt to invite ourselves into the conversation we're typically ostracized, by the "alpha" then by the followers. This is also how a "reputation" works. When a cluster of people form and debate what they should call others. Once a name is assigned, then the name decided for that person spreads through the work place/school/public place until that person is referred to as that. It's a very careful balance and an extremely inefficient, outdated, and backwards system of social prioritization.

Wrong citizen has it exactly right. At least he/she knows you can't just insert yourself into the convo. That happened to me at a previous workplace. Now days during lunch, I opt to eat alone.
