To Elaine mostly but to anyone interested.

Don't worry about it. Those that give a lot are not necessarily giving in a sacrificial sense. Remember the widow's mite parable that Jesus told.

Dang it I know the people counting the money know who the heavy hitters are. I used to be a church admin assistant. I saw the money coming and how certain people got special treatment. I tithed what I could afford and luckily nobody treated me less. I know human nature.

The widow's mite parable is a good parable. None of the heavy hitters know what it means to make sacrifices. Many of the heavy hitters like to have their names plastered everywhere and brag about their tithes and donations.

And if they get special attention for their donations, then the church in question is in error.
A tithe is freely given from the heart, it is not something that is done pro forma.
A tithe can also consist of time and talent.
And if you can't tithe, then God bless you.
A person should be measured by the weight of their souls, not by weight of their pocketbooks.

Church in America leaves much to be desired.

That is a statement I can't get behind. There are denominations in this country that are like that, but they are in the in the minority.

Ain't that the truth? Protestant churches are annoying because of the irritating pastors' wives and kids. Catholic churches have the popular families that monopolize the parish priests constantly.

Church is like another social club.
