Experience with Slowly/pen pals?
Has anyone here also tried the Slowly app or talking with pen pals by e-mail/snail mail?
I've been using Slowly for a while and I can say that it is much better to find people and talk to people than with instant messaging apps. The main difference is that in it it is actually socially acceptable to take some time to write out your messages and give more complete answers, as it simulates a letter exchange. You can also find people to talk to and be found by them, which helps in my case because I can't for the life of me reach out to people I don't know.
But unfortunately I never had the luck to get into any conversation which wasn't at most a glorified chit chat. I didn't have any conversation that just pulled me into it and made me really interested, I've mostly had more superficial ones. I think it may help me figure out how to chit chat and better talk with NTs, but on the other hand I can feel the people I talk to also don't seem to think it to be very interesting, as most of them stopped returning letters after a while.
Fortunately, it has been giving me a chance to practice languages I'm learning, at least (especially Esperanto).
Anyone gave it a try? What were your experiences?
