Why do people feel the need to have huge amounts of friends on msn, yahoo etc?

It's seems like some weird contest to me, who can get the most 'friends'.

This isn't directed at you MidNightFireStorm, it's just a general query.

I rather keep my list small. There is only one person on my list I don't know in real life.

I agree with you, actually I find MSN and Yahoo chat utterly pointless and illogical. My brother has around 800 contacts on MSN - who really needs that many? Surely 10 is enough! (But I never use MSN nowadays)

I don't understand that either. I'd rather have a couple of people I regularly talk to on MSN than have loads of people adding me.
