2023, a hacker had the nerve to manipulate me into giving him my bank account passwords. however, the bank manager saved me from losing my $$$. thank buddha.
2004, a "friend" had the nerve to manipulate me into lending him my car keys. he said he'd come back the next day and he didn't come back. two months later, i found my car. since then, i have not trusted anyone else or even myself, so i have not had a car, so i won't be able to do anything wrong with the car.
2012, my "friend" cory had the nerve to manipulate me into taking community college classes (so that i could apply for internships that required interns to be students). that idea might've been good in a different situation, but it was also extremely ineffective and inefficient. not worth the time, $$$ and energy it took to get there.
Cory's manipulation does not sound that bad. The other two are terrible.
Unfortunately, we can't trust anything coming out of a phone, email, letter, or social media. For now, we can trust the evidence of our eyes in the physical realm. That is, if somebody looks like who they say they are, they probably are same. But nothing else can be trusted online or over the phone.
AI-generation of images & even human voices has made scamming really dangerous even for experienced folks...
