At work the other day I ran into a situation where this coworker of mine was telling me to wait on customers and not goof off. Anyway I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and this kid was being a total jerk to me and saying arrogantly why don't you get people through your line. When this guy said that it really made me mad and I did make an excuse about my Asperger's, it's just that when I behaved like this it really made me feel ashamed afterwards because I didn't know how to deal with the situation. It's funny because there really are alot of people in this world who are totally ignorant about us Aspies and don't really care one way or the other. There are even teachers in this world who think they know everything there is to know about us Aspies but in reality they really don't know about us and are just being jerks. How many of you go through these situations, please let me know.

Thanks!

Patrick

I would never use being an aspie as an excuse, you should keep that to yourself. You have difficulties in a social situation, but you have a brain your intelligence can make up for it. Just try.

you know, you are doing your job.. what the hell was the other guy doing while he was hasslin you about working? Sounds like a jerk... wouldnt you be if you had to resort to harassing people you perceived as weaker to feel good about yourself? What a crappy life he must have. Talk to your boss if you can and tell him what's going on. Nobody needs to be bullied at work. and remember, he is the one who sucks.

Don't ask why... or do if you like lol :D but what I myself do is sorta pretend I'm Raiden from Mortal Kombat. I talk to people but start off shy and reserved, then gradually open up. I mean Raiden is cool, he can do whatever. :) lol is why I choose him. :P

I know this approach is completely nuts for many but it's my approach anyhow. :)

repying to the original post...

yes, i know how that is....i worked at as a cashier...and only once did i get yelled at for goofing off with another customer (one of my church family members) ...even though that was really the only time....and it was from a stingy stif-necked person who really dosen't like to see people have fun...lol just joking...only a person who was a little impatient and angry...

now just going on my own post:

for me, in social situations i get a good amount of anxiety...so i just retreate somewhere else or just continue a movie relaying in my head...or start to draw or read a book....in other times pull on the ends of my sleaves, or pick my nails....or twirl my hair...or just listen....that is why i never really go anywhere unless i have something to do with me, but it helps that i have a very visual memory that allows me to remember movies and actually see them in my head... :D

one of the odd things is that when i have daily interaction with people i learn the skills, but then after that stops....it just faids away.
sad.

What I would tell the customer is that "sir, I'm doing the best that I can. I understand that you feel frustrated, but I will get to you when I am done with the customer that I am helping. I apologize for the inconvenience"--and I'd leave it at that. If the customer continues to be rude and arrogant I repeat that line over and over again and refer him to your manager.
