As we're all netheads and love the web I have an idea.

Next year I'm thinking of visiting mainland Europe. I know that some of you are based there so here's my idea.

A thread is formed with a frequently-updated list of users that are happy for people to drop in while travelling. If you're passing through the area you can look at this thread to see if there's anyone based in the area. If there is, you can private message them and take it from there. I was thinking that this has several advantages:

For the receiver:

a) gets to use broadband for a few hours (to upload photos/use e-mail/browse the web/game)
b) perhaps gets taken around the local area and gets to see the sights
c) gets to see the locality from a local's perspective and gets some handy hints
d) perhaps gets shown a restaurant
e) meets a real local Aspie from the area

For the giver:

a) gets to meet a foreign Aspie and shares experiences with them - this might be a boon to some on here who don't have so many friends
b) receives some kind of payment (maybe a meal out or something)
c) keeps in contact with the receiver so if ever they're in the area...

Anyway, what do you think? Just an idea. :)

Great, so there's one new member.

What about ground rules?

Maybe to start off with they should:

a) provide a picture of one another so they can identify themselves (or wear a distinctive item of clothing)
b) both tell each other's parties where they are going (if possible)
c) meet in a specified public place some distance away from the giver's home: that would give the giver enough time to make a judgment about whether to carry on

What do you think? :)

No other interest then? I would have thought some of you, particularly in Europe, would be jumping at the chance.

Great idea!

I'm travelling to Europe in early 2007 and am going to stay with Star in Amsterdam. I'm also going to try to meet up with a few members in London.

I would be happy to meet up with anyone who comes to Australia.

Regards
Helen

Whereabouts are you from sisterofaspie? If you could give me a rough area that would be very helpful. :)

It's a way of allowing fellow WP'ers to meet each other and feed their Internet addictions (like uploading holiday pics to Flickr!) whilst spending time together and learning something new. Like our own variation on couchsurfing, if you will.
