Do you hate being stared at? Do you get tired of people's kids (who are obviously old enough to know better) staring at you? Do you get tired of painfully obvious NT jocks and their cheerleader girlfriends or rich old ladies gaudily clad in makeup and bulky jewelry looking at you like you're subhuman scum?

I sure do. I hate it most when kids stare at me. Especially when they look old enough to know better. It makes me want to say, "What, do I look like some circus sideshow freak here for your entertainment?!" But I have this look that makes them stop. I stare back at them with an utterly blank expression (makes me look creepy) and they stop. When I get stares from other people, I just glare at them. My boyfriend is a bit more bold. He asks them if they have a problem, and they usually look like they're going to pee their pants.

Know it too well.. It was hard to begin in a new class this year
when everyone stared and laughed and whispered.
I am so tired of it. I used to ignore it, but now..

I tended to stay away from NT's at college, because I always felt they were judging me, and their judgements would always be nasty or derrogatory. I don't know whether it was just paranoia or not, but I am much more confident with Aspies.

YES.

Children are always staring at me when they are old enough to know better or aren't.

Frumpy looking girls b***h about me, People with their ugly boyfriends stare and whisper.

It annoys me, what's so interesting about me? They never seem to do it to anyone else.

"cheerleaders" give me this sort of amused derogitory look as if to say "What are you?" and "Jocks" don't look at me at all, but i've overheard them bitching about me behind my back like a pack of tarts.

Staring irritates me very quickly... I'm glad it doesn't happen too often.
I've also taken to wearing reflective sunglasses, so I can stare right back without them knowing.

You actually find enough aspies at college to associate with? I don't...

If I stayed away from NTs, I'd be staying away from everyone... to my knowledge anyway.

Same... If I stayed away from NTs I'd be isolating myself from everyone... I have never met another Aspie in person.

I've never met one either, but only to my knowledge. I'm sure I've met lots that I didn't realise had it. It's only the last couple of years I even knew much about it at all.

I stare at people. I'm just looking but they tell me to stop staring. Do they want me to be blind or something?

I just had to deal with that, a couple maybe a couple years older than me, constantly glancing and whispering about me while I was just trying to fill out some paperwork in the waiting room. I really did consider confronting them about that, but there were a lot of other people there so I didn't want to make a scene.

Heh. I have a strong personality and like to express myself through my hair, clothing, etc. At the same time I'm fairly shy and don't talk much. Today's dress code: sandals (with white socks), tan NESI rave pants, blue Hawaiian shirt, bleached yellow hair, a black baseball hat and an MP3 player to discourage conversation. If people *didn't* stare at me once in a while I'd be worried. :-)

Why would someone waste their time staring at me?

i'm with you on that one, Jetson. if people DIDN'T stare at me, i'd be a bit worried.

mind you, sometimtes i can be so extreme that they just ignore me, cos they can't fit the image of me into any framework whatsoever, and so pretend i'm not happening. :D might be something to do with the fairy or angel wings, i suppose... ;)

anyway - what happened to your purple bits? i rather liked the sound of those...

When I talk to people, I tend to stare off into an undefined point in space, usually at nothing at all. People who don't know me well tend to take offense at this, but my family and friends realize I do this and either don't mind or don't say anything about it.

As for people staring at me, I don't care. I tend to maintain a low enough profile around acquaintances that they probably wouldn't have anything to talk about if they wanted to gossip about me anyways.

I do tend to group around more introverted, less social NTs, even if I don't know any other aspies in person. I can understand most of them better than I can understand outgoing NTs and they generally can understand (and put up with) me a little more easily. ;)

Before 17, I didn't imagine that making eye contact could be a problem. Later I became scared of eyes terribly.
