Last semester in my illustration class our final assignment was to do a portrait of another person in the class. The girl who did mine drew just my glasses, a bunch of word balloons (i'm a comic artist) and wrote my name on it (spelled wrong too, ooo that was a fun day).

I've been wearing glasses since I was 10, but I didn't realize how much people associated me with them. So today I went to my optometrist and got some soft contacts.

Already I notice a difference. In fact, after I got them I felt I had to trim my hair. I've always had greying, frayed mad scientist hair, but it doesn't look right now that you can see my eyes.

Maybe I'm over-thinking this, but do contacts or glasses make that much of a difference to your perception of another person?

funny...everyone always tells me I look better in my glasses than without...so...I look better with this big plastic thing obscuring a third of my face....

The boy i had a crush on in Jr. High only wore his contacts at school. Whenever i went to his house (we were pals)...he wore the biggest thickest clunkiest glasses you could imagine...and was always half-dressed......(sigh).....

Certain styles of glasses can look very good on certain people. Contacts seem like they would be uncomfortable, plus glasses just have a certain charm.

I much prefer my contacts to my glasses for a number of reasons. One is that age-old saying, "boys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses." Probably not at all true, but I feel much more attractive with half my face not hidden behind glasses. And my eyes are one of my best features.

But a big reason is sorta the inverse of that - to me the world looks better through contacts. The frames of glasses really distract me and the lenses get dirty and they seriously limit my peripheral vision. I only wear them at the end of the day when my eyes are tired and dried out from staring at a computer. With the contacts on, and no space between my eye and the lens, I can forget about them, whereas with glasses I'm constantly aware of their presence between me and the world.

But everyone's different - it's good to try them to know for yourself which option is better for you.

Glasses/contacts don't really affect my opinion of a person that much in general, but I know that they do affect alot of other people's perceptions of other people, or at least me.

I when I go to babysit for my neighbors' kids and I wear my glasses, the 7 year old boy always tells me that I look much better when I don't wear them. Gee thanks...

Also, when ever I wear my contacts to school people always comment on my eyes and have more than once told me I look like Drew Barrymore. I think that's a complement, right?
They also tell me I don't look like myself when I wear my glasses... Weird, huh?

It's weird what people notice... I sort of half-way-straightened my hair today and everyone complemented me on it.

I think glasses can be cute. Also, I wouldn't blame someone for not wanting to touch their eyeball...but if you're able to, more power to you!

Jeeze I tryed contacts and never succeeded, cant stand something in my eye nor can I touch my eye, I stick with my glasses I have had since I was 6 thanks!

Anyways, if someone wore glasses as long as I knew then it would be weird if they did not, maby I would not like their apperence, or it would take a while for me to get used to it. Same goes for someone who never had glasses then suddenly started having them, again it would take a while to get used to.

I have never tried contact, but I have gone through long periods where I never wore my glasses. I only have one bad eye.

I wear contacts. They can be a pain to insert/un-insert, so I tend to leave them in longer than is recommended.
I like them because my old glasses would never sit right on my face due to an ear imbalance, which caused my glasses to appear crooked at all times.
My BF actually would like me to get another pair of glasses--- he likes them.
I prefer contacts now--- they don't fall off or get fogged up or get droplets on them.

No, you are not over-thinking this.
Sadly, in todays so called "modern and open minded" society, there is still the stigma that people with glasses are geeks/nerds/only know how to study etc.
Of course, only ignorant people believe this stigma and still go by it.
I wear glasses and have noticed that when I wear them, people treat me differently than whenever I don't wear them. This of course, is only by people who don't know me personally.
Me? Well I don't care whether a person wears glasses or not. What is the significance of a piece of metal/plastic that helps a person see, anyway? I believe, that there is none.

I got contacts when I was taking metalworking and welding classes and it was alot harder to get safety glasses over my glasses and one of the instructors told me that I should try them and it would make a huge difference in welding to because glasses reflect the light and I get distracted by the frames around my eyes to. Once I tried them I wont go back, plus I break my glasses to much.

I had glasses. For alittle while. As an artist I need my vison.

But I was working with lower functioning autistic kids and you simply could not wear a baseball hat OR glasses around them. They would take them off and throw them.

I had contacts and they were a pain.

I saved up and had eye surgery. I highly recommend it to anyone who can save up for it . It was the best money I ever spent and every day since I've been grateful.

Yeah, and here I am ruining them all over by looking at a computer screen . . .

I wear glasses. I have contacts, but I haven't worn them in a long time. A reason why people might say, "You look better with your glasses on/off" is because people might be used to seeing you with/without glasses. A lot of the time, someone doesn't really look "better" with/without glasses, people are just accustomed to seeing you with glasses on/off and if there's a change in this, they tend to react, just like if someone gets a haircut. So it's really their reaction to the change in your appearance, not that you truly look better either way. I noticed this when I started wearing glasses. Kids in my class started laughing at me, and I wondered why this was, because some of the kids who would do it wore glasses themselves. After awhile, it stopped, because they were used to seeing me with glasses. The same thing happened when I started wearing braces, and people noticed, too, when they were removed.

I wear glasses, but I'm thinking about getting contacts. I think that I'd look a lot cooler without glasses, and I'm sick of wearing them.

My brother wears glasses and so do I, but he doesn't like wearing his. Whenever I do see him with them on I sometimes laugh a little at him but it's all in fun because I'm not used to seeing them on him. Hmm. I'm probably just making him feel worse, huh? But I love my glasses. The last time I went to get new ones, my optometrist seemed to be trying to push me into getting contacts. I was not interested at all. I have no problem with my glasses and I don't like the thought of having something in my eyes.
