How does everyone else handle them? I used to be too afraid to make any calls, but I've learn just to do it even though I'm still afraid. Has anyone else had this fear? It mainly is with talking to unknown people, but I'm not that comfortable even with those I'm acquainted with either. I think it also has some degree of not wanting to make mistakes, but it mainly is not wanting to talk to people verbally. Anyone relate and how do you deal with it?

I hate phone calls too. In fact, I think I'd rather talk to someone in person than take a phone call. :o

I use to absolutely hate talking on the phone, but I'm mostly over that now. I still don't answer it if I don't recognize the number, and I usually only call people's cell phones, since you can never know for sure who will answer if you call their home phone. I got over being afraid of talking on the phone by just talking on the phone. Hardly anyone ever calls me though anyway.

I work in customer service and today at work I didn't pick up the phone at all (the phone rang probably about 20 times). Most of the time I can handle it, but today I couldn't. I have gotten better than I used to be though especially from the jobs I've had. I don't like talking on the phone with anyone very much, but with strangers it is horrible. I feel like I'm not going to last a whole lot longer at this job, if anyone finds out I do things like ignore the phone I'll be fired. :(

I have sort of got use to using them, had to. But really still hate calls unless expecting them.

Also find it depends on my moods, and so if just not in the mood I usually use my answer phone to answer for me...

My computer is plugged into my phone 24/7, except every couple o' weeks when I use the phone the do business with the bank computer. I don't do banking over the internet.

On those rare occasions when I do find myself on the phone with a friend, if they want to "just talk" I find out where they are and go talk to them in person.

If I initiate a business call, it's a simple matter of stating what I need. What I can't stand is waiting for someone to call me back, like my doctor's office, for example.

Lots of Topics

I only like phone calls if it has something to do with being hired for a position. It is also indispensible in an emergency. Most of the phone calls are for the kids. It gets annoying. The ringing is the worst, and then the annoying mechanical voice on the answering machine that does the work I would rather not do. I try to turn it down so I don't have to hear it much.

In sum, then, a necessary evil.

I have to say I don't much like phone calls at the best of times. I try to avoid making and receiving them whenever possible. When I am forced to make them I am sometimes a bit of a mess unless I am talking to people I know well. Occasionally I can put on a very good act... only to realise when I've put the phone down that I said something in the conversation that sounded a little silly.

I don't mind phone calls, though usually I just plain don't make them very often because I talk to most of my friends online. I used to be kind of cautious to call people for some reason, but now when I'm talking to a friend I don't mind.

Similar experience at Wal-Mart in the Deli. I suggest you quit before they fire you. Otherwise you won't be able to be hired for some time.

I hate talking on the phone to an answering machine. I can never think what to say in time so I always sound stupid when I leave people messages.

I am not a good phone person. I am always doing something else while on the phone so I forget what they said. But, it works for quick information exchanging. I'd rather do a face to face. Or email. Email works best!!

I used to be in complete terror of making / recieving a phone call when I was young.

My mother forced me to do it though, and after a long, stressing journey I became used to it.

No problem at all now. Glad my mom forced me after all. :o
