Does anyone feel like that, more confortable reading than writing, even when sometimes you have the itch of replying or starting a thread?

As in real life, I always have to force myself to post or to talk - even here in WP, where I should not be ashamed of my inability to share or show. I have not even bothered to find an avatar and don't get me wrong, this site means a lot to me!

People say it is easy to know people and even date on the internet - but how?

Sure, it's easier to lurk, but participating is something u gotta progress to eventually. How else will u feel a part of anything unless you're an active part of it. It sucks just being a nomad.

Internet dating & conversation is easy because it's safe. What u say or do on here has little to no effect on the rest of your life unless u take it there, So, throw caution to the wind and have some fun.

The next step is being comfortable & open to the world in real life. I'm still working on that one, but the internet is a great place to learn how.

My ratio of written to actually-submitted posts is something like 1,000 to 1.

I like lurking.

Besides, unless I feel I have something signifigant to add, I feel like I'm just cluttering up the post.

I am exactly the same way. I find it hard to participate in any conversation when strangers are involved, even if I have the anonymity of the internet. Even posting this took an effort for me.

I am also bad in that I always rewrite my posts about 5-8 times(not exaggerating) before I feel happy posting them.

i've always been kind of a lurker on other message boards, mainly because they all felt kind of hostile and/or like i wouldn't belong...but here? i don't seem to be having much of a problem, maybe because people here seem not be very non-judgemental. it's nice not to be a lurker anymore... :)
as for real life? i still prefer to lurk in those shadows of anonimity. it just seems...safer. i like my comfort zone. i know i need to leave it, but, it is one of the few places i call my own.

Sometimes, yes. Other times I just have nothing to say.

I tend to lurk myself. There are times I just don't have anything to say or don't have viewpoints on what's being said on the message boards.

Mostly, I don't look at posts unless I have something to say there... but even when I start writing, I often end up thinking that someone else will say it better or it's going to come out completely wrong (or both) and just leave the thread alone.
But lately, I've been trying to push myself to click the "submit" button. Like right now...

I lurk a lot. Every once in a while, I try to type something up but forget to finish. Same in real life, I'd rather hang around and observe than participate...

Socializing online is a bit easier than in person because you have a bit more time to respond. That's how it seems to me, anyways...

I tend to lurk more than post, I’m always worried that my posts will be picked apart by someone and my intelligence judged. That’s why I spend ages typing anything out trying to make it sound just right. I’m too busy trying not to come off as offensive or dumb, sometimes it doesn’t always work.

Sometimes I feel that way. I usually make posts when I can relate to the topic. There's a lot of other message boards I lurk on, but have never posted nor bothered to register.

Same here. I won't repeat what someone else has said unless either it's a poll or I think numbers of supportive replies are important.
