I am 19 years old, and never had that many friends. For a while, that bothered me, because I had a desire to be just like all of the sociable people I see. I became particularly jealous when I realized that I probably had the same level of social skills as everyone else, yet could never seem to get into meaningful conversations outside of academic/work settings.
Then it finally occurred to me: maybe I don't have that many friends because I'm just not social. Maybe I enjoy being introverted. And I do. I write, I read, wander the streets, and do other things that would be much harder in a group. Do I still want a couple of close friends? Yes. How about a partner? Definitely. I have no idea how I will meet them, but I now know that I am happy being by myself.

I've gradually come to enjoy isolation.

A nice thought. You will be well served by this realization and insight. I've had too many years wasted and too much pain suffered trying to overcome isolation or letting it bother me. "Embracing my aloneness" (as the Tao puts it) serves me well.

I enjoy both. When I am alone with myself I enjoy the silence. I also enjoy the lack of social pressures. And I defiantly like not having to share or wait in line or take turns. It is always easier to read alone and I meditate a lot also. I use my alone time to reflect and look inside myself.

But I also enjoy my social life. Nothing make me feel better than getting the approval of friends and family as well as random strangers. I love loud bars and clubs just because they are pure chaos, you can do anything and most wont notice.

I also love sports and the comradely they bring into my life.

This is the best part of being alone.

I have been very isolated my whole life. I've noticed that I sometimes use my hobbies as a replacement for human contact (but not an adequate one). I listen to lots of music, which is a form of communication from the artist to me. Sometimes I watch TV if I'm feeling lonely. I used to read lots of novels.

The more I'm lonely--the more I hate the isolation.

I feel completely isolated because I am (a) an Aspie, and (b) 28 years old, several years older than the traditional college student.

Where do you go to college?

I go to Midwestern State University, in Wichita Falls, Texas. It's about as far to the northwest as one can get in Texas without being in the Panhandle.

I am basically halfway between Dallas and Lubbock.

My location is why nobody wants to be my friend on here.
