Easier to converse with older or younger people?

Has anyone else always found it easier to talk to people old or younger then them? I've always had difficulty with making friends my own age, even now i only have a few friends who are the same age as me (most are 2-3 years older).

It's easier now that i work full time, in fact my workmates mistook me for 23-25, until i told them my age...

Well, I wouldn't know. I don't think I even know anybody my age anymore.

I have the same problem. I use to have a best friend who is older than me. I talk to people my age but I find it boring sometimes.

I assume so. I only have one friend my age, and both he and I are (apparently) far more mature than other people we know in their early twenties, which I think is why we get along. My other two friends are 11 and 31 years older than I. Even people with whom I'm just acquainted, not friends, are either 15+ years older (neighbors or friend's neighbors) or 10+ years younger (neighborhood kids).

Yea, I'm the same way. Ever since grade school, I was always friends with my lil sisters friends, no one my age, cept the kooky kid.

But I honestly don't mind... I think people the same age expect you to act like them, so they think you are odd. People older or younger expect you to be different... less pressure to be something you're not.

Almost all my friends are between 2-5 years older than I am.

And I tend to date guys 2-5 years older than I am, as well...despite my parents' disapproval.

A 24-year-old dating a 19-year-old doesn't sound like a big deal to me.

It shouldn't be.

My younger sister is 18 and dating a 27-year old, and my parents have absolutely no problem with that!

They've always over-protected me because of my AS. I wish they'd stop...my social life is already bad enough, and their interference only makes it worse.

When I was a kid had a very hard time talking to my friends parents and avioded it if possible. From teenage years on-ward I have always had an easier time talking to people either younger or older than me like you described. . .I wonder why that is.

Oh and for some reason I always get younger men who are interested in me either that or a few who are quite a bit older.

easy answer. Both but not the ages in between. hah.

Im great with kids. I can play and speak at their level.

Im great with those much older than me. I can follow what they say and have meaningful discussions.

Those around my age... forget it. small talk and pointless chatter mixed with what seems to be materialist obsessions. Makes me sick.

Wow I'am the same way:) I only have a couple of friends my own age (we share the same b-day year). I have always hung around Little kids or Seniors.

I can definitely relate to this. I have never got along with people my age but I always can with people older and even some younger than me.

same goes for me all my friends are either 2-3 years younger than me or 4-7 years older than me.

Come to think of it, I really do get along with people not around my own age better. I think it's due the the fact that age is a noticable social distancing factor between people. If such a boundry is already in place, then my oddness is more accepted. People my own age expect me to be a lot more like them, which never works.

I feel it's much more fun to talk with younger people. But you got to be careful when you do it, because now everyone in my family thinks I'm a pedophile for it.
