Maybe you guys can help me. I have noticed this phenomenon on the internet lately. I can't understand where it comes from.

Over the past few months, I have encountered more and more people who, when they disagree with you, tell you to "DIE!" or "Why don't you just commit suicide?".

That is the most mentally crazy stuff I have ever heard. One person telling another to die or suicide. It is popping up everywhere.

Is it a kids thing? A fad in school? Where could such hurtful and evil ideas come from?

I've had my share. On the internet, you're going to always encounter as*holes who come a dime a dozen.

I used to worry about what other people think online, but then I finally realised to myself: "Why should I worry over people that I'll never meet who don't care about me?"

Its so easy for some people to be mean in forums like this because you know there is no possibility of direct retribution. If person A says something mean to person B, they know that person B is just going to have to be mad, and even if person B responds angrily, they know that person A isn't going to see it right away; in fact person A may never see the response.

I must admit to having been mean on the internet once or twice (only to conservatives 8) ) and there is something satisfying about knowing that you can burn someone and they just have to take it. I'm not proud of that or anything, but it has happened.

The ironic thing is sometimes best friends hate each other on the net and don't even know it.

Being anonymous makes you feel very confidant.
I respect the fact that you can say whatever you want, and I would never change it.
Leave it to the site owners themselves (thats why I love Wrong Planet).

In real life? Not really. But they probably think so of me because they gave me the creeps and I didn't want to see them again.

People I associate with online? Yes. I find most online people are cocky and mean, nasty or e-social climbing, and they would be too timid to face me in real life. I'm probably like that to a vast majority, too, although i'm not that timid of social climbing. i'd vice your balls if you pissed me off enough in real life.

I've only met one or two really mean people.
I've met a lot of stupid people online.
Then again, I've met a lot of stupid people in real life.

I'm cruel to people who I know, but can't stand on MSN.
I feel people take the internet far too seriously.
It just annoys me some times when people, on MSN ask me whether I know any 'fit boys' or they don't attempt to spell words fully.
So I just tell them straight-up what I thinkof them, if they are being stupid.
Some times I use the internet to convey opiones of mine which would be difficult to in real life because I would just get frustrated with the person and slap them in the face.
For instance, an ex boyfriend of my girlfriend who took their termination far too seriously.
Who began to act up this self loathing image and kept sending her emails about how he was useless and will never be loved. He also went on about how he wanted to end his life. Now when ever I've felt sucidal I've only told a few friends how I felt. I mean like we're not part of the caring, sharing world are we? So it makes no sense to me to tell your ex-partner
(who he never met and allegedly had not that close a relationship) that you want to die as it seems obvious that he wanted her to take pity. So I just get really angry at him when he says utter rubbish like I'm a sadist , who loved his sister (who I only was going out with for a week then she became obssesive), and apparently said I'm going to ruin his life. To cut a long story short he has a real lousy personallity.
So to speak frankly, he won't face-up to these truths and stop spreading rumours about me then I'm not going to censor what I say to him.
I guess in a way I am cruel to him, but only because he persists in being ridiculos so I'll continue to be callous towards him.
If i'm ever cruel I have a reason.

people are ruder, jerkier, cockier, nastier online.

It does annoy me sometimes, because they're only doing it because they're safe behind a piece of glass and a hunk of junk.

I've learned to take nothing on the internet seriously. Nothing.

It makes things much more fun and enjoyable.

I agree with Pizza Dude. The internet is far detached from real life as anything goes.

Well, I take sites such as this more seriously than MSN though. MSN is just a bit of a joke to me.

I've not met any mean people online, or at least not any properly mean people that I know of. I've seen flaming on forums but nobody's flamed me so far, so I just keep out of it. I have met some people who come across as really lovely though :)
