I find an activity my friend is obsessed with boring

I got in the wrath of the lich king beta ,not that I was playing wow a lot anymore, but this has pretty much put the nail in the coffin for the game at least for me, it was fun for a while. but the complete lack of customization and every armour set looking alike and well , just more boring exactly the same quests repeated again with different parts. No housing , recycled haircuts, nothing that makes it really cool, and i just haven't found the expansion all that fun. I know it's still in beta but , oh my goodness does it suck.

But there is one problem, my best friend plays, it's really the only time I get to hang out with them as it were now, actually it's pretty much the only I reason I have stayed playing for the last year.I quit for a while after the burning crusade came out I'm not sure how to say I quit they have gotten so upset the last few times I took breaks. I feel rather frustrated and not sure how to deal with this.

What do you say to someone, how do you stay friends?

Um. is this a real life friend?.... Just talk to them and be nice...I don't really know how to explain it. If you are having a hard time, than it's probably because you don't have very many common interests with this person.

Just stop playing and don't be their friend anymore.

Is there something else you can do with your friend? Something you would both enjoy?

real life friend and we have been trying to come up with other things to do together , i think world of warcraft is his obsession and i can understand how that can be, mine is a different one and we sort of phase in and out of similar ones, he was just really upset this time when I said it wasn't something I found all that fun anymore.
