Anyone remember this godly game? I started playing it a couple of months ago, and it quickly dethroned Half-Life 2 as my favorite single-player FPS. The graphics are a little dated, but it's still great. There's also a sequel to the game, but I heard that it sucks.

I remember playing the 1st level off a magazine cover-disk. I was completely blown away by the immersion and highly detailed, non-linear world and stayed up all night exploring different routes and plot-lines. 5am the next day i was wide awake, exploring the HQ and interacting with the staff. Just like real life! (only better) One of those magical and definitive gaming moments, like the first time you meet the thargoids in elite or the t-rex in tombraider.

It's a fantastic game. I also played the second version and it's not as bad as many people say, but it's got nothing on the 1st. The worst thing about the Deux 2 was the ending. They had so many good story possibilities and they still mess up.

I love this game. If you want to improve it slightly, you can make it look nicer by replacing all the textures with higher quality ones: http://www.hdtp.net/ This pack really makes it feel like playing a modern game. Maybe those that are tech savvy can help them out some. I think there is a Texture Pack mod for Deus Ex 2 as well. I don't know the site for that, though.

So.. what FPS/RPG game(s) have come the closest to matching or bettering Deus Ex 1?

I have a copy of the game, but I never played it much. Is it that good?

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. But ONLY after you get the patch. Even then it's flawed and a bit buggy but still quite lovely.

System Shock 2 was pretty good, but even older than Deus Ex.
