While I agree with most of what you say here, I must point out that Halo is a first party title published by Microsoft. Until very recently Microsoft owned Bungie (the developer of Halo) and they still have exclusive rights to any Halo related content.

Nintendo consoles have always relied on first and second party (companies owned by Nintendo) games. Almost all of the best games on the Snes, N64, Gamecube, DS and the Wii are published by Nintendo. Other developers such as Capcom and Square-Enix have been important at certain points in each consoles' lifetime but third party content has arguably been less important to Nintendo than to the other manufacturers because they have such a strong game design department. Microsoft and Sony both struggle to come up with first party games comparable to Nintendo's and rely more heavily on third parties such as Ubisoft, Konami or Rockstar. The take-up of the Wii by third-party developers has been very slow as most have been very surprised by the success of the console. Most third party games have been ports (usually poor) from the Gamecube or PS2 or poor imitations of Nintendo's games such as Wii Sports. Mostly this is due to the lack of power possessed by the Wii and its unique control system. Next year will be the Wii's first real test but this Christmas and soon after belongs to Mario Galaxy,Metroid Prime 3 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Sorry for being long-winded and this is just my opinion of the Wii at the moment, I may well be wrong.

I am most looking forward to Okami on the Wii as I missed out on this on the PS2 (due mostly to my irrational hatred of the Playstation brand) and I think Capcom have developed consistently high-quality and enjoyable games in recent years.

You know what corroonb, I agree with you. Although there was a demo for Halo DS at one point.

That's very interesting, I'd not heard about that before. Microsoft did let Rare convert Diddy Kong Racing to the DS and this was published by Nintendo which I thought was kind of weird given that Microsoft have owned Rare for more than a few years now.

actually some of nintendo's most iconic games are third party. castlevania...megaman...tmnt.

i'd actually really like to see nintendo try to get into the adult market too....they were starting to move that way with red steel but unfortunately not much has come yet...i'm assuming this will probably change as the market demands such a product to come out.

and okami might be one of the bigger third party games to come out.

Two adult games, Project H.A.M.M.E.R and Disaster Day of Crisis are in development by Nintendo at the moment.

And from what I've heard, Okami will be perfect for the Wii.

I bought it with all the exciting news about it last year and I bought it with about 3 or 4 games. For about twelve months I haven't even turned it on because there's not one good game on it yet. I love Free roaming action based RPGs which I have a plenty on my PC I also like FPS games such has the original Deus Ex it's the best because it was an FPS with RPG elements.

Nothing which comes anywhere near my interests has come out on the Wii and there's been no news that anything like them will ever come out. I'm disappointed. I think I should have put the money into some kind of new PC saving fund. :D

Well, DUH, you shouldn't have bought it if you only likes those sort of games. Nintendo is not known to publish those sorts of games in great numbers. The Wii is aimed more at the casual gamer. But if a first person shooter is your cup of tea, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption should be right up your alley. Though there are a lot of puzzles, it's got enough FPS action to whet that appetite.

Heck, I think the Wii and the first-person shooter go great together. I hope Nintendo realizes that.

A few games ,like the major league baseball game, are really fun, but I don't play mine much either.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl look amazing. As for RPG's I'm not sure, but if Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers has become the sort of RPG that FFXII was then you have a potenial candidate.

As for strategy games, the Wii Remote would make it easier than console strategy games but the only one of this type coming out is Civilisation, which I think is also coming out on other formats.

So, in short, the Wii has the potential to enhance the hardcore genres but Nintendo's approach means that might never happen / happen in a long time.

I got sick of it after a while and got rid of just about all of those games. Then, later in the summer, I got the Wii edition of Resident Evil 4 (since I really like the movies) and I could NOT STOP PLAYING. RE4 is alot better on the Wii than the GameCube. I also just got Manhunt 2, since I enjoyed the hell out of the first one on PS2, and Manhunt 2 is pretty awesome, albeit less blood and carnage than the original. Manhunt 2 is alot of damn fun. HIGHLY RECCOMEND THAT ONE. Almost gonna get SM Galaxy come next paycheck. Still...Manhunt 2 and RE4 are the best games I've played on the Wii by far.

Trouble is, Manhunt 2 has been banned in the UK so Shadowbound couldn't buy it.

it might still get released, rockstar is back in court with the BBFC as of this week, the BBFC have finally admitted there is no proven link between games and causing violence......so it should make them think a bit more about how silly their refusal to certify it is.
instead of wondering whether games cause violence or not, they should be telling parents to stop buying or letting their children play BBFC rated games when they are underage, they should release manhunt 2 but perhaps ask people for age ID first [and for all BBFC rated titles] and have disclaimers on posters in stores warning against allowing children to play games not meant for them, they should also get strict with parents who do this, and stop allowing the ruin of gaming for those who are actually old enough to play these games.
Is the American version of manhunt II censored?

Nintendo were never the one for targeting mainly the teen/adult market, so should have researched that one a bit more before buying a Wii,the money could have been spent on something that would have been liked more.
Am have been a Nintendo user since the NES[still have it at other home],but out of all consoles it's probably the one format am have bought the least amount of games for,am find the games not indepth enough and too platform dependant.
It's good that Nintendo has got a lot of people into gaming with the Wii,who otherwise wouldn't bother with games [eg,old people, fat people who want to do exercise, women who before-would have refused to play games assuming they were only 'for men'] the same could be said for the DS as it's mainstream friendly to,Wiis' translation is to mean for everyone [or something like that], so if they start focussing on hardcore RPGs and FPS they're going to end up making a lot of their very casual users avoid the wii because it's the impression of geeky hardcoreness that keeps them away from gaming, they want simple, easy to start playing games and Nintendo is best at doing these.

okami seems like it would be perfect for the wii, because of the control interactibility it will have with the celestial brush-as long as the movements are tracked properly,on the ps2 it did have a tracking problem with the brush techniques,ie,having to keep repeating them over and over cause it's not tracking them and using up all the ink at the same time.
it's Ready At Dawn who are converting it to the Wii,a team thats' made up of former staff from Naughty Dog [eg, the older, better Crash Bandicoot games] and Blizzard [no idea what games they have done]-so it shouldn't be bad.
Wonder would they be allowed to make Okami II if the wii version is decent and more successful than it was on ps2?

Blizzard were the developers of World Of Warcraft. I haven't played it, but I've heard the name in IGN's top 100 countdown.
