I've recently acquired a program called ezdrummer, I'm using it within ableton live. It's actually 1000's of recorded drum samples by really good drummers.
I have an awesome drummer but he never practices or anything and its driving me up the wall so if you're in the same situation as me invest in this program! It is pretty much useless on its own with preset grooves etc, but thrown into ableton live I can program every single hit to ridiculous levels of precision.
Within 24 hours I've been able to create beats to my really heavy stuff, my rockin stuff, and even my ballads. It sounds so real it feels like I'm playing my songs with a drummer with 100% perfect rhythym.
Finally a program for guitarists that can't find other musicians that will actually put effort in!
If anyone wants to hear some samples of the drums buzz me I'll send them, though I haven't got the input to record high quality guitars yet I play along to these drums every day and the songs are pretty much finished.
(if you want to hear them used on heavy metal albums try Ziltoid the Omniscient or Meshuggah - Catch 33.) Though my versions sound just as awesome thanks to this amazing program.
Now all I need is the input and a bass and my music will be on its way!
