Hi,

I'm just curious, my son had an MRI back in 1994 when we were trying to figure out what was wrong. Dx at the time with Bipolar they wanted to rule out other dx's. Needlesstosay, he dx with 3 others by the time they dx him with AS. At the time, if I'm correct, they weren't really aware of AS. Do you think they could have missed that back then? I just remembered that they said everything looked normal. Totally confused  again.

i was wondering ster my son was dx with AS by a psychiatrist (specializing in AS) and 2 psychologists. Then I went to a neuroppsycholgist and he told me he had ADD, social phobia and avoidant personality disorder. Even when I showed the report to his psychiatrist and psychologist they said he is off. Very confusing. Then I read the article about MRI and I get even more confused. I see so many of the same traits in myself as my son that I had myself tested and they said I had AS.
Life just keeps getting more interesting the older I get.

in the end, i guess it depends on how well you trust the professionals you're dealing with to
accurately assess the testing information they receive.....in our case, we felt that the neuropsychologist was the only one to really listen. he was the only one to take into account our anecdotal information and look beyond what was obvious to most, to get at the true heart of our son's difficulties.( so many professionals treated us as if we were bad parents, and that's why our son is the way he is..."spoiled,rude")
the neuropsychologist came recommended from my ex-principal ( i teach at a non-inclusive special ed program).....

Let's see. My daughter and I both have AS. We both have trouble paying attention to any one thing for very long, we're afraid of new social situations, and would like to avoid life in general. ADD, social phobia, and avoidant personality disorder. Put 'em all together and they spell...ASPERGER'S!
