Maybe we need an online psychologist to be one of our team?

That SandyGeorgia thinks I'm CurseOfFenric. Anyone able to tell her otherwise? I don't have an account on Wikipedia, and I have made only one edit. And that was on the page to do with the Doctor Who episode The Impossible Planet.

Who the hell is she, anyway?

There was a great article on Slate recently about editing history on WikiPedia. Apparently more than 50% of the content is generated (not just edited, but generated) by only 100 or so people. These trolls use any of the myriad completely subjective "revert" clauses to make sure that the content on the site agrees with their viewpoint. Instead of a collective of public knowledge it is little more than a textbook written by the poorly informed. WikiPedia is an unreliable source.

btw, there is a funny article on The Onion AV Club about WikiPedia edit wars.

Having attempted repeatedly to get correct facts about an industry that I do know a lot about onto Wackypedia only to have them deleted and removed constantly, I gave up.

I call it Wackypedia because they are more interested in an internet source than they are interested in facts.

If you can cite a website with factual information, then link to it and if the troll removes it, put it back up, always explaining why you made the edit. It goes much better if you have an account.

If anyone needs webspace on which to park articles... PM me and I will voluntarily provide as much bandwidth as is necessary to put such articles online.

The thread has been hidden now, Roxas. The argument there has been closed. It got pretty nasty.

... maybe it was good that it is, it probably would've gotten nastier if I had been there...

Check out Autism Speaks on Wikipedia again. An edit made on Friday that raises the original point in "Controversies" as well as the "cure" issue is up. Wikipedia-Autism Speaks:Controversies

This summarizes the conflict and solves the question: don't trust wikipedia nor it's users intentions.

There's actually a whole humor page on Wikipedia about the lamest edit wars on the site. The page is right here

This looks like something that should hold up.
