To most people music is just entertainment. To me it's more than that. If I really enjoy a song I really enjoy on a deep level. It can block the rest of the world out. I can feel it in every cell in my body. It's almost like a drug to me. In that it's addictive and in that I lose myself so completely in it.

I can't speak in front of crowds very well but let me start singing. I don't see the people anymore. It's just me and the song.

Music to me can be a stimulant that gets me moving in the Morning. It can also be a sedetave that calms me down before Bed. Sometimes it can be a trip into the 1960s for me. At other times, it can be a very Cultural experience. Music can be a healthy way for me to channel my agression (think British Punk). It can be a trip down Memory Lane into my 1980s Childhood and Early Adolescence. It can be my moment on my Imaginary Disco Floor. It can be a trip through the Country Side of my Mind. A walk down Carnaby Street. Maybe I'm becomming a little too deep. :P

To steal from the robot zombie Dick Clark:

Quote:
"Music is the soundtrack to our lives."

Exactly! There are all different kinds of music!

And Dick Clark is right, too!

You've got me in one.

Music is a form of poetry, and in my opinion the best music has layers of sounds which come together to create melodies that stick in your soul like splinters. For me the mark of good music is that you can listen to over and over again and find different rythms and patterns every time.

I think that Music is the stimulation and cultivation of the mind & soul, without the need for words.

In all technicality, music is organized sound. It's the person's perception of the music that gives it meaning.

I've always found music not only to be an outlet of creativity, but something on which I could actually thrive, like sustenance.

I've always thought music existed in different energy levels. Energy levels are not bound by genre, I should add. Depending on the energy level I need, I listen to music that satisfies my craving. Sometimes I need that heavy metal so I can bounce and a) use up energy. b) build up energy. Other times, I like to relax to something more mellow. I dunno. I don't think music would be the same without a perception of energy levels. Oh, and again, it's not just the sound of the genre. The mood of the piece does a lot for it. Lyrics sometimes add to that and build upon the emotion.

I'm bad at explaining things... that, and I'm too lazy ^^i Basically, music, other than the literal definition, is whatever the listener perceives it to be. I perceive it as an outlet for energy, creativity, and overall expression. ^__^ I hope that makes sense.

Ditto, I feel like I have a real transcendental/spritual connection with the stuff I'm really into - probably why I like stuff thats kinda somber and epic. Its like an aural attitude adjustment and I've gotten to be a pro and knowing what to listen to when to keep my mood where I want it or explore certain emotions I'm having further.

I think I've written a post before as well about how I draw a lot of much deeper happiness off of darklight (ie. listening to the right kind of real dark techstep while I'm driving arround on a warm sunny first-day-of-spring or whatever). Something in that kind of paradox makes that happiness hit at a much more 'real' and feel like it has an element of toughness to it, which I guess helps me to take some of that excess I don't want (ie. corrosive happiness) and dissipate it into something more of a profound sense of confidence. Rolling along and listening to whatever style I have in the cd player, having the subs pumping behind me, getting chills on the builds and sometimes even tears in my eyes - nothing in this physical reality can top that.

Music is what runs through my veins. It washes the worst of my depression out of me.

That's what's so wonderful about it, I think - or one of the things, at any rate. The fact that music is such an emotional experience... I think it's because music is another one of those windows into the soul, and not just a single soul, but a collective soul (if you will). And, like I said, it's sustenance... and solace... and catharsis... moreso than food, or empathy, or repentance...
...and for many of us, the very blood that pumps through our hearts.

^__^ and that, kids, concludes today's "moment."
