What sort of difficulty level do you usually play at?

Before playing Call of Duty 2 at Veteran difficulty, I used to play every game a Normal difficulty. I find the challenge of playing at a higher level makes the game last longer and I enjoy it more. I enjoyed Ninja Gaiden a lot because it was so difficult and beating it felt great.

I usually play on whatever is the "medium" difficulty. If I've played the game enough times, I'll move up to a higher difficulty. However, I don't do this as often anymore, because it's less interesting than it used to be. Back in the old days, there were more enemies for the higher difficulties. Now it's usually just the same number of enemies, only tougher/smarter.

normally at "normal difficulty" but for games like god of war where you get different unlockables for playing higher difficulties I'll play the hard and extreme difficulties.

I usually play sports games. The problem with that is, there doesn't appear to be much of a difference between Medium and Hard on NHL, yet there seems to be a world of difference between Medium-Hard and Medium on MVP Baseball 2005. They're both made by the same company too *Scratches head*

I like to play easier difficulties first, I have usualy played the easiest then I move up, that way it is more fun, and I go up to the hardest difficulty. Though sometimes the easiest is too easy or I am playing co op I will take it up a notch, I played Halo 3 at the second highest s I was playing with two others.

I always start off on the default difficulty, and bump up the difficulty on a second playthrough.

I remember the days when lots of games were unplayable unless you constantly saved and reloaded. I'm glad that that doesn't happen so much these days, even though many of those games are among my favourites. The recent Prince of Persia games were fantastic in that it would be the sort of game you'd do that in, except the 'Sands of Time' turns it into an actual game mechanic rather than making it feel like cheating.

I always play at easy mode. I'm the embodiment of the stereotype that girls can't play videogames well...

Depends on how old the game is. If it's really old I'll play on easy (especially if it's an arcade port or a Sega game), but if it's fairly recent, I'll put it on the hardest difficulty.

Start at easy, and work my way up...if there are difficulty options.

Depends on the game.

-Earlier games I'll play on easy since they were usually harder in nature anyway
-RPG's like the TES series I'll also play on easy (for TES itself i would be adjusting the difficulty slider down to minimum)
-RTS's I'll play medium or hard since easy comps are incredibly weak, usually don't even attack, and crumble when you send one cavalry or tank (depending on era game is set in) into their base...

It depends on the game. Some games Easy can be difficult enough, and some games Hard is practically impossible. Some games Easy is way too easy, and some games Hard isn't really hard at all.

I usually play on Normal difficulty and will switch to Hard if it's too easy or to Easy if it's too hard.

I used to start off on whatever the normal/medium level was, but recently I've taken to playing games on the most difficult level possible.
For example... I just beat this DS game (It's called The World Ends With You, if anyone cares. It was fun. (:) and I immediately moved up to Hard the moment it became available. I also played through about half of the game (The first week and the first few days of the second week) alotting myself half or less than half of my regular HP. With the added difficulty, it turned out to be much more fun than I'd anticipated and then, when I unlocked Ultimate (I think that's what it was called... It's the harder-than-hard setting you can buy after beating the game) it wasn't even that that big of a jump up from what I was used to. It's a bit disappointing when things get a bit too easy, but it (the more diffcult settings) just makes the game so much more fun the first time through.

Ugh. I hate when games force you to UNLOCK the harder difficulties :x

Honestly, what's the point?

Actually, The World Ends With You had one of the best implementations of multiple difficulty settings I've ever seen in a game. There was no problem having to unlock difficulties since difficulty was changeable at any point in the game, and the game actively encouraged doing so, rewarding players who opted to play in more difficult conditions.

I start off with easy to test my computer with the game, but then I get carried away, get to a stage - keep dying. Months later, I get in the mood to play it so I start again but on a harder skill setting and where I remember I had problems, I blitz straight through as though I had been playing it effortlessly. I love being able to do this - leave a game for months even as long as 2 years - go back to it and complete the challenge first time :D

Sometimes easy is too hard and hard is too easy - anybody else find this? Maybe I expect the challenge then I step up the game a little.

Was once playing a game and I got one frag in Q3, then I had problems and was being left way behind, found a strategy and I won the match with a lead of 2 frags 8) I can adapt to many of these pretty well, especially with racing games too... I just become separated from my hands and I'm just watching the action like a TV, and my hands and fingers are controlling it as I see something happening as though I am truly there.

I like to complete a game without any debug codes (cheats to anyone out there) then once I have done so I will start to tweak a few files to improve the game, play as they wanted then play with some proper tuning
