They were innovative enough that their sound stood out, and they were emotive enough that the lyrics were somehow relevant. But why did they have to break up?

It was nice to hear them again in Donnie Darko.

Did you know there is two different versions of that movie where "Tears for Fears" is actually replaced with "Ecco and the Bunnymen?"

Yeah I had heard of that, I think there's a couple of track swaps, INXS for something else too. I got the soundtrack out of the library and recorded it, and it has two version of Mad World on it, but they're pretty samey. I love that soundtrack generally, lots of great music on it.

You reminded me off how I promised myself on learning to play "Mad World" by ear on the piano, thanks!

LOVE that group. I always liked the "Everybody Wants to Save the World" video.

I had a sicence teacher in 9th grade who was obsessed with TFF. She carried one of their drumsticks with her to class every day, good luck talisman maybe? I liked them too...

I bought The Hurting cause I was feeling particularly gloomy. Now when I'm feeling fatalistic I sing Mad World to myself. Darn you, Tears for Fears!

They're one of my favourite bands. The Hurting is an amazing album.

I love all their hit songs. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", "Shout", "Head Over Heels", "Sowing the Seeds of Love" - all excellent.

The Hurting was pretty good and they had some strong singles after that.

Not too familiar with them, but Shout is frequently played in the goth bars.

The band has reunited by the way, although I am not sure if they frequently tour again or more sporadically perform. But they definitely regrouped.

In their style of music I would say OMD is the better band though.

I found some of their CDs in my basement last year. They're pretty good.
