So - I'm currently a Business Analyst - I've worked for relatively high-end companies and on some pretty decent projects of report development and business situational analysis. I've kind of gotten to the point though, through trying different industries and different departmental data, where I'm no longer challenged. I've been searching for awhile now for something that would keep me challenged consistently and which, as a field, would continue to grow and in turn force me to continue to keep up.

I've become somewhat interested in the field of Biology/Genetics, and more specifically, Biostatistics. I know there are a few people on here with experiences in the sciences, and I was wondering if anybody would be able to provide information regarding this field. Are there sensory issues I should be aware of (I'm particularly sensitive to light)? Are there political issues in this field that might be a roadblock? I'm good at giving presentations and communicating, but I'm not as good at working in teams. Perhaps this may not be as much of an issue, because I imagine one would work with a more motivated and intelligent crowd in this field.

Based on the research I've done so far, Biostatistics seems like something that is very challenging and has a lot of room for growth and exploration. Is this a fair assessment or is it being hyped up by universities hoping to enroll more students?

Are there any other fields or areas that come to mind as challenging along these lines?

Any thoughts/ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

I'm undiagnosed, but show so many of the signs that I'm pretty sure.

This is definitely a real career change. I've been looking for the right thing for awhile, and am ready to move forward to get the degrees I need to be succesful in this change. To some degree, it is an interest since I've always loved statistics and have been caught doing surveys and statistical analysis at even the most informal of settings. I've also had a passion for genetics for some years and I find it fascinating. I recognize I may have to deal with some things that are not in these passions, but I do that now and can do so effectively. For me a job doesn't necessarily have to be around my interests (though that helps) - it just has to be something that I need to think about. Business Analysis was something that I just fell into and, as a career, has become quite easy for me, and I think I'm ready for something that would require more thought and intellectual challenge.

I know what you mean about stopping interests suddenly - I've done that plenty of times, but those usually only last a week or two for me - this has been kind of lifelong.

i would advise to wait. stick out your current job and wait a while......
i would get a diagnosis forst and then see what changes if any are needed.....
the reason i say this, is that a lot of aspies are unhappy with their career/jod/work environment, we often go from job to job, some of us are unemployable......
i alomost did what you did a few years ago thou...cucked in my current job and left to a new country and started another degree........it may have taken my interest for a while but it would have been replaced by another in a few weeks/years time.
aspies do have poor impulse control...i would wait until you got diagnosis and advice befor you launched into a new career.

read through the forums here, some of the stuff is venting and some is attention seeking but some is really good.
and good luck dude.
