Channel 10 stupidity
On Australian TV, channel 10 is like the more succesfull and most commercial of the stations (despite 9's association with MSN).
Anyway, they've started a more imposing way of advertising upcoming features with annoying, yellow popups at the bottom of the screen. I'm sure US residents and cable TV customers would be used to this type of stuff already.
The stupid part:
The popup comes up and is says "DON'T MOVE, Smallville preview coming up". THANKS!! Now I know to LEAVE so that my blood doesn't BOIL when I hear the rediculous Ch 10 voiceover team thinking their hoarse, erotic voices and witty comments are appealing and cool. Sorry, people, you can't brainwash an aspie with carefully selected colours, voice-tones or sensationalism. I hate seeing my family get hopelessly sucked into this stuff and defend it, but it's still amusing watching the suggestability of the NT mind. And thanks for advertising an advertisement, that's realy usefull.
And by the way, Small-vile is an insult to superman. How long will it take people to realise that snaleville, LOST (not on 10, I know) and similar are not written for the sake of art or story-line but simply for ratings and to keep your mind lost within the fictional world they create!? It's audio-visual poison but atleast I'm immune to it. Channel 10 has really sold-out. F***ing Big Brother.
Discuss, debate, criticise:
Your channel 9's not tied in with the same MSN our NBC is tied in with, is it? That said, yes, we're painfully aware of those animated "bugs". And if you haven't seen it already down there, get ready for the credits at the end of each show to be squashed into 1/4 of the screen while a full-screen promo plays along with them. One network skips credits entirely.
Actually, yes, they're doing that too . I thought it would be illegal mess with the credits on TV, and sometimes there are amusing jokes in the credits or at the end of them that are now obscured from view.
I wonder if Rupert Murdock has something to do with this. I'm not aware which stations he owns. I'll look into it one day.

Kerry Packer and Microsoft did a deal years back, so now our Australian "Channel Nine" is ninemsn, which is exactly like NBCMSN, I suppose.
If only microsoft would fix the bugs in it.
Channel nine was tradionally the leader in our ratings because of their news and current affairs - such as it is.
Rupert Murdoch isn't allowed to own any TV station here (except the pay tv), because he owns all the newspapers. We have "cross media ownership laws" to try to prevent monopolies on information.
However in practice, the Packer empire (which includes a lot of magazines) is totally in bed with the Murdoch (newscorp) empire.
Packer and Murdoch would like the cross media ownership restrictions removed, but so far it hasn't happened. I think our conservative government (Ironically called the liberals - like the USA republicans - you only get liberty if you own a company with a bigger cash flow than our government), would like to please Kerry and Rupert, but are just a little scared of the consequences of letting them have their way. Ie do what we say or we will publish nasty things about you and the public will vote for someone else next time around.
Generally I find that all commercial TV and radio is just total sensory overload at the best of times, that's why I'm one of those "elites" that only ever watches ABC or SBS (occasionally Channel 31), and listens only to RRR or PBS. It's a shame because I do like some commercial shows, but I just can't handle ads and promos - hence my burgeoning DVD collection of The Simpsons and Sex & The City.
As for Microsoft "fixing the bugs" in Channel 9 - imagine if Apple launched a commercial TV network? We can only dream...
