Why does my mom do this?
About 4 weeks ago, my mom and stepdad decided they were going to Florida for the week of July 22-29. I was not invited. Despite the fact I don't like Florida much, I hissed and howled about how they were going to leave me alone and not even leave the car. After my uncle, who lives with us, put a knife to my neck in a drunken stupor, my stepdad began to rethink his anniversary hideaway. Who wants there kid with his drunk uncle unsupervised for a week, right? I had finally won my argument. Case closed. Not quite.
This past Wednesday, my mom began having second thoughts. The drive to Florida is going to take close to 24 hours and she does not fell she is up to it. Now it seems that no one will be going. I even cussed her this morning which is a strict no-no in our house. Why must she always do this?
Another example of her strange behavior was on New Year's Eve. We were all going to Dallas to see my brother-in-law perform. My sister and her husband had reserved a room for my mom and stepdad. When my mom found out that her sister's son, who is 9, would be going, she flipped out and said he couldn't go. Eventually, my aunt did make Matthew stay home. Later, as we were about to leave, my mom says she is not going. We called and cancelled the reservations for her room. Literally five minutes later, she called us back and said she had changed her mind and was going to go, and that she was in the process of reserving another hotel room. What is she thinking?
There's not necessarily enough information here to make a decent conclusion.
The Florida trip you alluded was an anniversary trip. You also mentioned about them not leaving the car, which tells me you are at least 16, but I don't know how old. (or how they would get there without it) The uncle clearly needs AA and/or eviction. It could be read into from your post that your mom decided not to go to Florida b/c she didn't want her whining son ruining her anniversary? Or perhaps she wasn't really up to the trip? A 24 hour drive is a lot to endure for a lot of reasons for some women, just depending. Maybe they'd only just saved enough for a cheap getaway with one room and couldn't afford it with a second room, but she didn't want to tell you that.
As for the new year's eve events - what kind of performance? How does this child behave generally? Some 9 year olds you can take anywhere. Some should be left in the care of a nanny until college. Changing one's mind is not such an odd behavior. In addition to your age, what is your mother's age? That may speak volumes as to her actions as well.

A point I neglected to make was that the anniversary was June 6, almost 1.5 months ago.
They own two vehicles. I will be 18 in 3 weeks,
Very likely.
Good point. However, we went once in 2003 and had a good time. The rooms at the place we stayed at have two rooms. It is a timeshare of a sort on Cocoa Beach.
I'm 17.98 or so, my mom is 41. It is was a rock/metal concert. The child in question would have likely not made any disruptions. Changing your mind isn't odd, but when someone cancels a reservation, has to pay a fee of $75 to forfeit the reservation, only for the person who canceled to turn around 5 minutes later and reserve a room at the same hotel is a little strange...
