Hello,

There is something I have been wondering about for years and no one could tell me whether it was normal or not, they do not seem to understand, the only thing I have been told is "you must have been hit by dust" which makes no sense.

So, when I go to bed and think before I eventually fall asleep, I sometimes have involuntary movements. Sometimes I startle for no reason, or it's just my arm or leg which makes a quick movement (like a twitch). I also see a bright light during a second and when it happens I hear a noise.
It prevents me from falling asleep because I suddenly feel very awake and not sleepy at all.

I follow a regular sleep schedules, I rarely go to bed after midnight though it may happen when I do not have to work (during the holidays or on saturday only).

I have always had that, it was worse when I was younger though (happened a lot before I fell asleep) and apparently no one in my family has ever experienced that. I do not think it's life threatening but the sensation is very strange sometimes, it can feel as if everything in my body had stopped working during a very short time (less than a second) and start working again suddenly.

I wonder if it can be linked to restless leg syndrome because I seem to have it (but it's usually more than the legs and I have "crisis" during the day sometimes which can make me act violently against a pen XD).

You're referring to hypnic jerks, it's actually very common. One of the theories is when your asleep you body slows down, you jerk because your brain thinks your falling. It is more likely to happen if you have lack of sleep (like going to bed after midnight.)

Oh yeah, hearing a noise before you fall asleep is common too. Referred to as the exploding head syndrome, it happens in quite a few people (including me).

Here are the wikis:
exploding head
hypnic jerk

Strangely enough it never happened when I had a lack of sleep but I guess everyone is different. Thank you about for this information, I really do not understand why everyone keep saying they do not see what I mean because it does seem to be common, perhaps they just do not experience it the same way.

Exploding head syndrome is kind of cool. I have had this when awake. I have also had the clicking noise and the flashes of light etc.

I also get the twitches and also get RLS.
