http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%BCnchausen_syndrome

It's a disorder when someone pretends to be sick or whatever so they can get attention. I used to do this a lot when I was kid, but I don't think I have it.

I've heard of it. Its been done on shows like House. I haven't met anyone who actually has it though.

I used to do that but not to get attention. More to get out of gym class.

I did that to get out of school. But Munchausen Syndrome, and Munchausen Syndrome by proxy are different. it's when some one goes to incredible lengths to get attention through illness, even hurting themselves and their children. There have been several big cases about it.

I think there is a difference between pretending to be sick to get out of something than doing it to gain attentionm or sympathy. I have faked being sick as a kid so I wouldn't go to school. That isn't MS. And people with it actually do do things to themselves to make them sick. I even hear some of them die from it because they over do it.

I used to pretend to be sick to get out of school, too. I much preferred staying at home.

There's an interesting movie called The Night Listener, which has aspects of Munchausen's in it. I don't want to give too much away but I believe it was based on a true story.

My aunt would burn her kids hands and stuff to get pain killers for herself.

That is seriously disturbing! Did the doctors ever figure out this was the case, what happened to the poor kid?
