some societies have sent their "mentally ill" to places and locked them up. as seen on another post in africa i believe....

but distinquishing them as mentally ill seems to be as a result of psychology......

plus people still lock others away in insane assylums...

People in Africa with psychiatric or developmental problems have been found to fare better in communities with zero access to assylums have been found to have a far better prognosis than the ones in places with very medieval mental health care.

Actually in some countries people who are labeled as mentally ill here, are well respected shamans there.

Cool story, bro.

And in others they're pulled apart, or burned alive (would be happy to link you to some video of such a happening in Kenya).

The point is that,
where mental illnesses are not recognized as such,
they are often instead attributed to whatever bizarre mystical/religious goings-on that that particular culture believes in,
and that results in people being TORTURED AND MURDERED, or at the very least shunned by the community and left to fend for themselves.

I mean if you didn't go around telling people what was going on in your head then wouldn't you be just as normal as anyone else?

A book might not be rightly judged by its cover, yet it must act like a book in order to be considered one.

Crazy is as crazy does.
