So, my family and I went to see The King's Speech. It was a really good movie. But my parents decided to use the opportunity to start talking over dinner that evening about the evident fact (I don't really notice it) that when I start speaking, I have a tendency to repeat myself over and over again in the course of trying to explain something. They say that it's less pronounced when I'm on my meds - I have ADHD - but still there pretty apparently, especially when I speak in paragraphs. It's not something I notice, so it's not really like I can fix it. I have no idea if anyone besides my parents notice because I feel awkward asking them. Do people with ADHD usually have those kinds of issues? Do you have any tips for fixing it?

My roommate does this. Not as a stutter or a form of echolalia, he just does it because he's not verbally articulate and he's trying to articulate himself and this is the best he can do. It's fine with me because at least he is trying to explain something.

But to you, since it's a problem you wish to rid yourself of, record yourself explaining something and give yourself 10 minutes to do it. Try to get it down to 5, then 3 by making the needed adjustments to your speech patterns.

Oh my goodness. I become so flustered when trying to explain things to other people, I eventually just wind up saying nevermind or something, and there's a lot of hand motions involved. Hand motions are helpful to recalling information, but for me it seems like I'm just illustrating my inability to speak clearly.

I have repeated words over and over out loud, it gets embarrassing.
