We've got lots of artists here. You should get a huge response.

I think everyone is an artist at some level. Such a cliched thing to say though....

My experience with artistic expression has been limited most of my life, until I met my last girlfriend. She was an art student, and from being around her, I realised both that I liked art and that I had latent talent. Until that time, my only artistic expression had been in the form of writing and a little photography. Now I realise I have talent (and a craving) for drawing, music, and architecture as well, plus i want to dabble in lots of other forms. I find drawing to be especially therapeutic and calming, and fits in nicely with Zen.

I'm a bit of an artist, but I don't draw much now.

I'm a musical artist, I suppose. I hope to be a composer someday. I recentl acquired a program called Guitar Pro 5 which, despite the name, puts an entire digital orchestra at my command. The problem is I can't share my creations with people unless they have the same program :(.

My brother is a somewhat successful artist. He supports a wife and 2 kids with his art. http://www.artbyjoseph.com

I do painting and really enjoy it and I love art in general but when does a painter become an 'artist'? I'm not sure. My husband maybe, because that is his profession, but I am only still learning. Maybe I will stick to the term 'painter' for now :)

An artist is, in my opinion, someone who creates their own material. For example, someone who could paint an exact replica of the Mona Lisa is an excellent painter, but not an artist since he or she did not come up with that idea in the first place. Even small children with no artistic talent can be artists as long as what they create comes from their own minds and hearts.

I agree. Nobody can call themselves a real artist if all they do is copy other's artwork. They need to acually create the peice.

I'm not an artist then... I draw things I see, which are drawn by others...

I like to draw, but not nearly as much as I used to. :( An artist though? That may be a bit of an overstatement. Most people say I draw good though.
