If you say something like, "I'd like a consonant, please, John," why are you asking this?

I already know this. I'm just testing all of you to see if you know.

In UK, you should say "I'd like a consonant, please, Carol."

Oh, no, Thank you, I am fine. And you?

Next: Would you like some cream for your coffee?

(OK - now I'm dying to know....did I just get an 'F' on your test, larsenjw92286)? I suspect so.

"Countdown" is the second-longest running game show in British history.

Richard Whiteley was its original host, then he passed away of cancer in 2004, and that sportscaster who shall remain nameless took his place. Then, Des O'Connor took over and boy, is he doing a great job now! He is also a singer, and he would remind all of you Americans of Regis Philbin.

"Countdown" is a game of literacy and math, and you are given 30 seconds to come up with a solution. When your thirty seconds is up, the host will ask you for it. The music provided in the Youtube clip is played as the clock ticks down from thirty to zero.

"Countdown" is a serious show, but its host is someone who has to be serious and have a good sense of humor to keep the game interesting.

All three hosts of the show have been very good, but I think Des O'Connor definitely has the balance between being serious and being silly.

If I had to choose a host based on personality only, it would be Richard Whiteley. His warm, caring personality fit the show perfectly, and the fact that he used nothing but a bit of his sense of humor when the contestants picked letters that spelled out so-called "naughty" words was also very good. He just let it slide.

It's too bad he passed away!
