OMG I have just read the most amazing book Bring the Jubilee written by ward Moore in 1953 its an alternate history about what would have happened if the south had won the civil war the main character is a simple man trying to live his life in this world anyway during his travels he comes across this think tank group who have discovered time travel
he travels back in time to 1863 where he then inadvertently causes the death of the Confederate officer who occupied Little Round Top during the battle of Gettysburg In Hodge's timeline, the Confederates held the hill and won the Battle of Gettysburg, paving the way for their victory over the Union in Philadelphia a year later; in the resultant timeline (our own), however, Colonel Strong Vincent's brigade and the 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment commanded by Joshua Chamberlain occupy the hill early on and successfully repel Confederate advances
and history continues on as did in our own timeline it sounds simple enough but you have to read it to actually appreciate how amazing it is.
