oh good you're catching on Fnord. if you know the title and who thus wrote the book, why did you not include him?

1. It didn't show up on any of the lists that I googled.

2. If I included that one, then I'd have to include ever other book that was nothing more than the lunatic ravings of an obvious madman (ie, "Das Kapital", "The Book of Mormon", "Chariots of the Gods", et cetera).

1984 is my personal favorite, it is just captivating on an academic, political, philosophical and ethical level. I remember studying Of Mice and Men in school, writing an essay on the social and political context. Mein Kampf is interesting, as we get to travel into the mind of Adolf Hitler.

Was a confederacy of Dunces banned anywhere? Somebody somewhere (like the protagonist in the book, Ignatius Reilly) must have expressed moral outrage over something in this book.

Naked Lunch by William Burroughs had been banned in Boston as obscene, but was ruled to have been of literary merit when taken to court.

I like pretty much every book on this list, 'cept the Bible, that was boring. I couldn't make it through numbers, it made me want to break at least three commandments (4 in some states).

Who banned Metamorphosis? Someone who doesn't like bugs, I guess.
