On Friday I was playing guitar at a local bar when one of the other people in the bar introduced himself as the morning DJ for a local radio station. Randy asked if he could interview me. I went to the station this morning and talked with him again. My original music is more like classic rock than country, but Best Country 103 is one of the most popular radio stations in my town. He told me to bring my guitar and my amplifier and he will put me on the air.

I found a link to listen online if anyone is interested. I don't know exactly what time tomorrow I will be on, but Randy's show lasts from 6 to 10 a.m. (Pacific time zone, west coast USA) and he told me to show up around 9 a.m. KRSB-FM Best Country 103

Sigh. I remember them good ol' days when I wanted to rule the world with my guitar. Oh well.

Congratulations, The Bicycling Guitarist. I wish you all the best.

Thanks for the encouragement! IF I get famous and presumably rich, I will help my community's food pantry, library, low-cost vet and animal shelter. IF I get even richer, I would be honored if Alex would accept a donation to help make the WrongPlanet web site even more awesome, better code, better servers or whatever it takes.

I may get a chance to discuss what it is like for me living on the spectrum (I have Aspergers). If for example he asks how or why I became The Bicycling Guitarist, that would be the perfect opportunity. Back then (in the 1980s) I did not know I had autism. All I knew was that when I played guitar while riding a bicycle at the same time something magical happened.

My body goes on autopilot keeping me balanced and somehow that distracts me from my sensory issues, and my mind is on the music instead of racing a thousand directions at once at warp speed. It is a meditation in motion and is the only peace I have found so far in this life, but I have to do both at once for the magic to happen. Guitar by itself doesn't do it (although it is still relaxing and exciting). Bicycling by itself doesn't do it. In fact I have a hard time riding a bicycle without a guitar! I don't see how anyone can do that.

I wish I lived closer to Roseburg. I have absolutely nothing to do during second period at school, so I usually turn the radio on my phone on.

I was on the air for five or ten minutes beginning around 9:10 or 9:15 this morning. In addition to mentioning my guitar Annie and my Schwinn ten-speed bicycle The Minstrel Cycle I also answered a question on how I became The Bicycling Guitarist. In that context I spent about half the time discussing autism.

A few hours from now (around 1 p.m. Pacific time) I will "ride the guitar while playing the bicycle" to a parking lot across the street from the radio station to be filmed by one or more of their crew. They will put video of me on their web site.

I know how to play dozens or even hundreds of classic rock tunes, and I can usually play along to just about any style of music figuring it out "by ear", plus I have dozens or hundreds of my own songs and I can make up new ones at the drop of a hat.

What do you have in mind? If you answer in the next ten minutes or so then I can possibly be playing it while they film me. I mainly want to play some of my newer original songs for this filming, especially since the station filming me is a country music station and some of my newest songs while not country have some folksy finger strumming in them.

HAHA - eye of the tiger, something with tiger in it!

If you can't it's cool bud, you've gotta do what works with you. It'd just make my day, but it's no biggie.

Good luck, hope it goes well and looking forward to seeing/hearing it, if/when that's possible. :D

Sorry. I'm sure I can play along with Eye of the Tiger but offhand don't know it well enough already to do that today. I'm on my way out to be filmed. Hopefully I will have a link to the video if the station posts it on their web site or Facebook page in the next day or two.

Here is the video filmed yesterday in a parking lot across the street from the radio station. My guitar kept going out of tune and the bass strings kept popping out of the nut because someone I trusted with my guitar did bad things to it and I haven't fixed these problems yet.
