There is a story I saw on "Dark Matters" about two brothers who picked up a tranmission from what they believed to be a doomed secret Soviet cosmonaut as her ship was failing.
"Tin Can"

It follows a female cosmonaut Llana as she is prepared to be the first female cosmonaut into space, her launch not covered by the news. She is told she will make history, but there are no news journalist covering her. It is done in complete secrecy, The "simulations" she goes through are fishy. When she asks the engineers about where the heat shield on the craft is, she is told different things by different people.

The story also follows a member of the Soviet "mission control" who talks with her.

When she is launched into space she comes to the realization that her controls are fake, the program never intended to bring her back to earth. She panics and develops a relationship with the "mission control" technician. Who sings her songs and tells her stories as she slowly dies inside the capsule. He tells her to keep the electrodes on her body in order to get data about how the body behaves in space.
