Recently, I've been trying to get more music on my xbox to listen to while I play games with no/boring soundtracks. I have a ton of stuff back home, but some of it I've grown out of, and I can't get it to uni for a while yet.

I scoured my local HMV (and my local CeX, but they didn't seem to have much in the way of metal, at least not that I could find buried in the westlife CDs and RnB compilations) and got four CDs so far;

"Avenged Sevenfold: Hail to the king"
I'm a long time fan of A7X. I won't pretend it's all that deep or technically good, but I just like it, and hail to the king is far closer to "City of evil" than their other recent efforts.
"mastodon: Blood mountain"
I never got round to trying out mastodon, so I decided to take the plunge with this seeming as some of my more musically knowledgable friends (read: people in bands/on music courses) raved about it a lot. It's damn good.
"Nightwish: Once"
I've listened to nightwish a lot on youtube, often whilst studying, and I finally found a CD! One with alot of my favourites by the band, too.
"Dragonforce: Beyond the valley of the damned remastered"
I had a good few dragonforce albums back home, no videogaming playlist seems complete without it. This is, apparently, a remastered version of an earlier album along with a bonus track.

That last one brings me to the point of this thread. Of all those, I liked the dragonforce one best. True, I knew I liked them before, but it had been a while since I listened to them and it reminded me how much I liked this kind of music, OTT, a bit silly, cheesy power metal, especially good for gaming. Does anyone know of anything kinda similiar? I know of some other bands that compare to what I'm looking for, but I can never find the CDs for them, and seeming as they're intended to go on my xbox, that's important;

Sabaton
Sonata Arctica
Timeless Miracle
Alestorm
Kamelot
Turisas

You may find this rewarding.

If you are really intent on listening to cheese though why not go full out cheese. Seen these live while Dragonforce drummer Dave Mackintosh was still with them, really fun night. great band.

I can't help you with all that power metal stuff though, I have seen Nightwish live too, worse gig i have ever been too.

try Ensiferum, Helloween, Tyr, Manowar, Strapping Young Lad, The Devin Townsend Project, Korpiklaani, and specifically Brendon Small's album "Galaktikon". whole lotta cheese and tons of great stuff from all of them. try looking up CDs on amazon if you cant find them in stores.

Bullet For My Valentine; Trivium; Amon Amarth (good, catchy, melodic Viking metal); Battlecross (heavy thrash metal); Black Veil Brides (try their album Wretched and Divine for this sort of thing); Five Finger Death Punch (very cheesy); Within Temptation (if you like Sonata Arctica you will probably like Within Temptation).
Also, there are some good classics and older bands for this: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and AD/DC, to name but a few.
