Are there many other Second Life users on WP? I'm a *complete* junkie, and I thought it could be nice to start a WP community on there. Any thoughts?

Ask wikipedia. It can explain far better than I can. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Life

You mean Second Life, or Wikipedia? I LOVE Wikipedia, and sometimes get stuck on there reading about random stuff (and then following links...) for hours and hours. I've read everything on there about wolves, and dolphins, and raccoons, and stuff like that.

I tried Second Life, and didn't like it. I mean it's free, so if you have a fast enough computer and internet connection you might as well try it. But I thought it looked terrible, and I couldn't figure out where to go or what to do. It was hard to control, and even with the search function I couldn't find anything interesting.

It was bad too because I was playing World of Warcraft at the same time-the games have the same system requirements, but WoW looks like 10 times better, has a much easier interface you don't need a PHd to figure out, and I know what I'm supposed to be doing! :D

I tried it, but they wanted me to pay to import textures etc...
In the end I decided I didn't have time for MMOG

Meh, I got bored of Second Life. The jerkiness feels irritating, and I can't find any good places to go. I just found myself aimlessly flying about. Playstation Home looks promising, though, but I really don't want to fork out £425 in a PS3.

Second life sucks... I tried it but got bored of it after a day. The way that you're supposed to alter your character's appearance is dodgy.
It lags all the time, and the amount of places is just too much. Habbo is ok, though I haven't been on it for ages. No good if you don't have friends to play with you though, and I stopped going on it after a week.

I think Second Life is great personally. I feel it is important to keep in mind that its not really meant to be "a game" though. It is a social, creative and economic platform (think of it as a VR / 3D version of the Web). If you are looking for a structured game with clearly defined goals given to you then you will be disappointed - that's not really what it is meant to be. Although people have created plenty of games within Second Life - it has a very powerful scripting / programming language. But Second Life itself is just the platform upon which those games are built. Most of the content is created by the users - so that is why the quality of content varies considerably (just like on the Web). Something like World of Warcraft has a very consistent graphics quality because they have a stable of professional paid artists and a singular art-direction vision. The whole point of Second Life is that anyone can create content in it - some are amateurs / hobbyists, some are more professional.

Anyway I think it is worthwhile. It is really great as a creative and social outlet. I admit it can be hard to find interesting things and people sometimes since the world is so huge but they are definitely in there. There was even a project / group devoted specifically to people with Asperger's / Autism called Brigadoon - http://braintalk.blogs.com/brigadoon/ . They formed a private island on which people with AS could create and interact. I'm not sure if it is still currently active though - the website hasn't been updated in over a year.

Search in the Groups to find people who share your interests. They recently improved the Group search though I haven't tried it yet. As an example, I joined the D&D interest group a long while back which eventually led to joining an ongoing campaign - we play in SL virtual table-top style (virtual miniatures / battle maps / dungeon tiles, dice, etc). It has been a lot of fun.

Forming a WP group in SL is a great idea - I would join it.

Hmm... well, I'll go ahead and start work of something of the sort, as soon as I get SL working again - my connection is playing up lately, making it hard to log in. If someone else can't wait and wants to start it themself, by all means do!
