That was never a hit.

'Narcotic' was definitely a hit in the Netherlands, peaking at 4. It still gets a lot of airplay today.

Is it overrated? I do not think so. Many people I know consider it a pretty cool 90s song, but they don't praise it to high heaven like for example 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' by The Verve or 'Wonderwall' by Oasis. So I think this is a song that gets its due respect. I'm unfamiliar with the rest of Liquido's album, though, I should give it a listen when I have the time.

I always thought the song was too slow and had so little drive in comparison to the other songs, even most covers and remixes are better.

A lot of albums have a certain track that will be released as a 'public appeal song'; a song that is not necessarily in step with the rest of the album, but is written and composed with a larger segment of the audience in mind, who may or may not choose to buy the album. That's the track they will release as the lead single, and which they expect to do some good business in the music charts.

Maybe 'Narcotic' was written with that in mind.
