This topic should tie in all the uses of this forum because it is a games question but also a sports and fitness question.

So does anyone find Wii Sports useful for fitness?

Not me. I've played it a little but didn't think much of it. I get my daily workout from DDR, which is a lot more strenuous and in my opinion more fun :)

Really I've been disappointed with the wii so far.

It gets my heart rate up a little, but so does walking up a few flight of stairs.

it sure is better than nothing.

and i think you CAN use it to a minor fitness degree. maybe not with golf... but i realized that for bowling, i need quite some power in my arm to move the wiimote at speeds that allow me to let the pins explode away. also, try to act out the punches in wii boxing and get them really fast. im talking muhammad ali-fast. my wii-sports jab is almost harder than my cross as muay thai training made me train those fast and flickering movements more with my lead hand.

still, its not something like a small aerobic workout with burpees, rope skipping and maybe one round of shadowboxing or hitting the heavy bag - but you still can get something done with it.

It makes my shoulder ache for a bit if I play it too much.

I only find boxing useful for fitness but it still good taking the fitness test every day. I think my highest fitness age is 26.

I find boxing pretty useful, because shadow boxing is part of my exercise routine anyway, and it's harder with the Wiimotes because they are not weightless (OK, they do not weigh much, but whatever). And it's also good for motivation! The only problem I have is that it refuses to recognize some of my moves (my left hook, for example - and I'm doing technically correct left hooks, so I don't really know why), it collapses moves into templates (but hey, it's a launch title) and that it can be exploited (though I do not do that because I do it for the exercise, not the points).

The practice exercise when you have to punch bags fast is also cool because it gets me in a wicked frenzy

Unfortunately, my Wii is currently in a different country than I am, and this will probably remain so for another two months 8O

I also love DDR, but my dancemat is shot (hmm, guess why) and I should really buy a new one; unfortunately, my favorite cheap dance mat type (this one) is no longer imported to Europe so I'll need to find another model. I tried Madrics dance mats, but I always slip on them. Any ideas?

yeah, left hooks in wii boxing are somehow weird... i almost completely stripped them from my arsenal as i dont want to unlearn correct hooking technique for something the wii responds to. :) however, body hooks work a bit better for me.

as for shadowbosing: using gloves of 10 oz. or more also adds a nice workout element to shadowboxing, once it becomes too much of a piece of cake (or you cant wildly employ elaborate footwork and stuff where you live).
