If you're sensitive to sound, is local bass confusing?

It can be confusing at times because I think it's coming from an external source, from a neighbour or such, since I'm normally so annoyed when I start hearing such a monstrosity (as bass without the rest of the music is useless, besides irritating and unwanted)... so sometimes I have to confirm it's mine by muting it temporarily.

Yes, I have to mute things to make sure it's my sound and not the neighbours or outside. Anything really though. Our neighbours are incredibly noisy and frequently play irritating music (they have frequent parties) which you can hear everywhere in the house. Or they will play it through a phone or something as well. It sounds really tinny, but it's so LOUD. I sometimes can't tell if it's our TV or their annoying music.
I'm usually ok if it's my headphones, they're in ear so cancel out much of the outside noise. But sometimes I get confused even then, whether it's my music or outside noise.
