I've started a new photography series and I'd like to invite you all to come have a look. I'll post updates once or twice a day as long as I have something to post. I plan to keep adding to it for the foreseeable future.

http://airavj.tumblr.com/ Have You Ever Really Looked?

Description of the project from my blog:

Quote:
I have detail-oriented perception. Basically, most people have a sort of filter in their brains which decides which information is important and which is not, allowing them to discard extraneous details and focus on the “big picture” by the time the image gets to the conscious mind. I lack this “filter,” meaning I have to manually process every detail of everything I see (it applies to other senses as well). It can be overwhelming, but it also allows me to notice details that others never do.

For this series, I will first take a photograph of some typical scene - a street, a tree, whatever I come across - and then immediately take close-up (usually macro) photographs of the first few details that catch my eye. My hope is that, aside from being interesting, this might help others understand how it is that I see, and why I sometimes take so long to react to things.

Posts to this series will have the tag #hyerl - others with detail-oriented perception are heartily invited to join me and post your own photos. I will reblog others on my other Tumblr (thingsairafound).

Feedback is welcome. I hope you enjoy it. I'm having fun taking the photos.

Whoa, that cat on your site is really freaky looking!

Your site looks great, and interesting too.

Nice pics.
I like photography too and guess what macros are what I like best. There is so much beauty in details sometimes...when you try and show people (NTs) they usually can't see, but when you show them a pictre it takes a whole new dimension for them.

Yes, I love macro photography. I'm not good at other types because I'm not good at seeing those big compositions, but macro lets me take some amazing tiny little thing that jumps out at me and put a frame around it so everyone else can see it too.

It's always more interesting to focus on the detail you can miss a lot if you don't really look.

The only shame is I didn't find this a month earlier before I went to the Czech Republic as I managed to find some nice areas around Plzen, but it's such a shame I didn't know about areas like Divoka Sarka which I could have easily got to from Prague.

Divoka Sarka is actually in Prague. So normally very easy to get to from Prague. : ) However, at the start of summer they began massive construction work on the road that leads to it, shutting down all the trams and backing up traffic horribly. They still haven't finished. When everything runs normally, I can get there from where I live in about 15 minutes. Right now it takes closer to an hour. So don't worry too much - it wouldn't have been so easy for you to get there.

Actually, I had intended to go to Divoka Sarka for these photos on Sunday. I thought the construction was finished. But when I got to the tram station I realized it was not, so I walked to Stromovka instead. It's crowded and doesn't have the same "away from the city" feel as Divoka Sarka, but at least it's beautiful there.

Rest assured, however, that as soon as the construction is finished and the tram lines are opened back up, I'll be doing lots of this in Divoka Sarka.

I'd the comment about being a 15 minute tram ride out of the city, but I had gotten the hang of the tram system while there so thought that would have been easy. Yeah it's good to know the tram line was closed as my mates wouldn't have appreciated me dragging them down a complicated route that would probably takes us more than an hour to do. I'll just have to remember that in case I go back there again.

I was out with my camera today and realized I've been doing this all backwards. I shouldn't be showing a picture then pointing out which details catch my eye, I should be showing a bunch of details and then afterwards showing the "bigger picture" that I have a hard time seeing. This should be a much more effective way of expressing my perception to NTs. I've put up one example on the blog just now - would welcome feedback. More to come over the next couple of days (I shot these in RAW format so it takes some time to process them all before uploading).

A very interesting concept. I myself explored this theme during the development of my current project that delvels into the visual projection of my with AS. You could call them psychological self portraits.
