I don't know what I should do... this past semester I had just two classes, and it was pretty easy. I am in some kind of "community" with people majoring in the same field, and part of being in the community is that our schedules are all the same. But I would definitely leave it if it meant I could make a better schedule. My schedule for this semester has classes from the morning until night, and I live 30 minutes away from campus. I kind of feel this is a subliminal message to encourage students to live on campus, so the college can make even more money off of them. All the classes just on Monday are just terrible, I don't think they could've made it any worse. First class is from 9-9:50AM, then I have to occupy myself until my class from noon-1:50PM. Then more waiting around until 4-4:50PM. Last time waiting around until 7:10-8:30PM. The rest of the week isn't this bad, but I still have to waste at least two hours each day. I think this is absolutely ridiculous, and I really don't want to stay at college for 12 hours every Monday. The only day that is anywhere near good is Friday, where I only have two classes from 9-9:50AM, then 10-1:50PM. Even then I don't want to spend nearly four hours in one class. I never knew what college BS was until now.

Hey Robben.

Living on campus or close to campus does have its perks, but think of all the money you're saving (assuming you're living at home or someplace rent-free). I'd suggest using your 2 hour gap between classes wisely. If you're able to study efficiently in the library or any place on campus/near campus, then do that so when you come home, you can relax. One thing I usually do is look over my lecture notes after class is over because the material is still fresh in my mind, and if there's something that I missed, then I can ask for clarification at the next lecture. This also helps deter cramming. Also, some professors don't take attendance, so if you're the kind of person that can learn on your own, then you could probably just show up on exam days.

p.s. The 4 hour class meets once a week, right? Well, the professors usually let you out early.

So, wait, was this schedule assigned to you? I've never heard of a college doing that. Is this for a specific major?

I will go along with what Beau said and use the time between classes to do something. Study, do homework, have lunch, etc. Back in community college, I had classes with big gaps in between, and I commuted about the same distance you do. I would get work done there since I had the time, leaving time at home open for anything I please.

It depends on the professor, but a class is usually let out a bit early then what is scheduled. It could be for five minutes or even an hour.

Use the breaks to do homework.

I'm in a similar situation. I live about 30 minutes away from campus and have a similar kind of timetable this year and what I've done is write my own timetable blocking in library times in between classes to do all of my reading/homework stuff. I've set a consistent lunch break and planned where I can eat each day and basically tried to organise it so that I use all the free time to do most of my work so when I go home I can rest.

Hope it works out for you.

Your schedule is indeed awful.
The only thing I can think of is to try to study in the library between classes.

One thing that helped me a bit when faced with some similar issues was to find a really good place to study in a central library. I found an area with carols that few people went to. It had a view of the treetops in Washington Square Park and was very peaceful. I used that spot as an office, since I lived way of campus. The other key was finding out which bathrooms were acceptable!

But once I had a place to set up in the library, I could just go there and read, write or clean up lecture notes.

Is this a pre-med program? I have not experienced a moment when I did not have some choice in class selection and schedule was always a factor in selecting classes.
