Recently, I have been reading a lot of Hemingway, a lot of Chekhov, and a LOT of Bukowski. My mind has become a sponge for their words.

I want more.

Bookstores are like minefields. I can't afford to make too many lousy purchases.

All of this is inspiring me to write some literature of my own.

My brain needs to fed, it needs to be challenged, it needs to be sharpened. What can I read that will help me out with that?

My friend Lisa Crystal Carver has written a handful of wonderful books. Her most recent, 25 Lives, is brutal, scary, frank, honest, hard. It's a collection of 25 outsiders. Also recommended is her book called ________________. It's about her journey into understanding and coming to terms with sexual abuse and her traumatic childhood. Her son Wolf is autistic, and has written a book, too, called Wolf The Artist.

all of these can be found at suckdog dot net. (can't post the URL due to being new)

Check out free e-books online which you can download: there are some good ones out there. If you're on a tight budget consider joining a library or browsing the hospice shops.

I have lots of different books but don't really know what to recommend as I'm not really sure what your tastes would be, as I'm not familiar with Hemingway or the others you mention.

I highly recommend To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, as a modern classic.

I also like fantasy works such as Tolkien, but that might not be your cup of tea.
