Does anyone else like these types of songs? I'm not talking about sad lyrics. I'm talking about music that's really lush and somewhat epic. It sends shivers down my spine and puts me in a kind of calm trance. Of course looking out a car/bus window at rainy/foggy mountains helps.

Hey marshall.

Are you referring to the post-rock genre? I listen to a few bands, but their instrumental music can put me in a depressive mood if I listen for too long lol. You're right though; they are great for long drives.

It's more a style than a genre. It's used a lot on post-rock and the sounds are generally derived from dream-pop or shoe-gaze (it can be either synths or guitars with heavy reverb and echo). It has a swelling nature to it.

Here's another example... well the part from about 1:35 to the end.
