Speaking for myself, I DO NOT "glorify" Scott Weiland or his death.
Although I didn't take the opportunity in my above post to express anything deeper than just sadness, I do have deeper opinions and they consist of the fact that I personally have NO delusions whatsoever about the flaws of Weiland.
HE WAS a deeply flawed, fcked up, messed up person who had messed up marriages and wasn't a good enough father.
I have zero problem being aware of that.
I also feel the same way about John Lennon. He was a horrible person but people make him out to be a saint. He wasn't.
However, what I do is I can still separate the reality of that from the fact that it's still sad to ME that someone who happened to have a hand in making some of the music I love has gone forever.
I'll allowed to be sad about that, because there will be no more of that particular person's gifts. I'm allowed to be sad also that another human being has wasted the rest of his potential life by buying the farm at a stupidly early age, due to his own bad lifestyle choices.
One can be sad about that without condoning it and certainly without glorifying it.
Also important to point out, in the interests of balance.....Mary herself (Scott's ex wife who penned the article you link) was a junkie too. Like Scott she had addictions and was bi-polar. Mary was as unstable, unpredictable and nuts as Scott was.
But now she gets to be holier than thou about him while painting herself as the good guy now that he can't counterbalance her remarks.
They were BOTH a mess in that marriage.
Wholeheartedly agree with this post.
This was my favorite STP song.
