I just got a kick out of this, particularly as someone who's had his ear to the ground with drum n bass for a long time. The Samurai Music label seems to be hosting a lot of this - and guys like ASC, Sam KDC, and Ena have been pioneering something.
Or, perhaps not *quite* pioneering, just that while D-Bridge and Instra:mental were walking dnb more toward techno it was a very detroit flavored thing they were doing in their Autonomic podcasts. Similarly Consequence (from NZ/Aus, not the US rapper) was doing things with Test Dream back in 2011 that were kinda similar but not quite at this tempo and quite a bit more abstract.
All the same, it sounds like this is codifying now as - The Grey Area. I might have to jump in on my own sort of exploration along these lines as I've had my desire to do something more post-dnb rather than dnb proper. Not that I don't still love dnb when it's made as it is, good stuff is still coming out and Zero T's Golden Section on Dispatch was a great album, just that I'm getting to the point where I'm not sure I'd want to deal with the limitations anymore in my own work.

Pretty wicked sounds! Nice and experimental, I'm glad it's inspired you.
I personally make Trance, akin to the 'classic' kind of the '90s. I'm trying to incorporate elements from another genre, the recent Jungleterror (http://www.moombaplus.com/2014/07/29/jungle-terror/) to try and make my own unique style rather than something unoriginal. A person I asked for feedback did believe the bass and drums sound 'dated'.
It would be great to hear your old work compared to something new you've been working on to see the difference.

It's really a tough thing for someone to, so to speak, drive the cutting edge. A lot of times with the motifs I pulled in I was either working on things that were kind of in the direction dnb was headed in or things that were a couple years behind. I know a lot of really classic rave sounds were starting to get pulled back in, in a way the really isn't much room for any sound to really grow stale anymore unless it's paint-by-numbers composition.
