No (almost) music .
in my homeless state I have ~ essentially ~ NO access to recorded music that I want to hear .
Listening to YouTube at the library (which is limited to the ~ at most ~ couple hours a day of computer time I can do) is all I can do .
I have no radio , no Internet device , no CD or other music player (no DVD or T either) ~ I don't quite have the money for them , they get broke/stolen , and , maybe most of all and this only occured to me recently , I HAVE BEEN LEFT BEHIND BY TECHNOLOGY . Fifteen years ago I was homeless , and had a radio and maybe a tape player , maybe a CD ~ There are no so so so fewer portables of that kiind made and far far far fewer placesto buy them , I am left behind .
I could perhaps manage ~ sometimes , anyway ~ a music portable oif they were more available as they were before , but ~
BTW , as far as getting a phonne and putting music on it , remember , I have been BEGGING AND BEGGING people here to help me icrease my computer tech knowledge , very specifically PROMISING up & down " I won't ask for money ! I won't ! "
And I wouldn't . I am only asking for knowledge .
Still , no on will help me .

I'm sure people will offer free tech help if you ask for it in the library. If I were in CA, I would've given you a hand, but it's pretty common throughout the US to get free computer / technology classes at public libraries.
Wish you the best

...Well , for one example of this , at one free lab near me , I asked for help in getting just a picture from one of my I.D. cards , with thought of simply putting that up as a Facebook picture , and he did the first step , but then left me alone , saying " You do it yourself " - I need more help than that !
I really think I need more personal attention/one-on-one than a mass class can , simply in itself , provide .
I have said that , if someone would regularly go along with me and meet me seperately too , I'd go to such classes ~ And , if I haven't made it clear enough , aside from not asking for any money , directly or indirectly , I'd pay for the basic tech myself , in such a situation .
I wish someone would . Please ?
Wish you the best

I'd try to get a cheap, solid state MP3 player myself. I used to have a Sansa Clip+ that I freaking loved, but eventually it became somewhat water damaged and it broke when I tried taking it apart. Oops. It's a discontinued model now too, and they go for super high prices on eBay because of their audio quality.
Even though the Clip+ isn't available anymore, I'd assume some of Sansa's other models are good. My Clip+ had good battery life, and it was pretty easy to put music onto since it didn't need separate software like an iPod would. It could take MicroSD cards too.

Definitely is a great player, so small, so powerful, so cheap. Did you ever install Rockbox ? I had 4 Sansas all Clip +, Rockbox had a lot of bugs back then and somewhere along the line the firmware ended up corrupting the player's memory. The original Sansa with the blue ring was my favorite and first, I was never interested in the Cowons or iRivers.

I never installed RockBox on my Clip+, though I did install it on an iPod Classic I had before. I wasn't overly impressed with it.

...Thank you for your interest , but what is overlooked here is BOTH (1) my lack of money - and knowledge/experience for shopping for thus - and the lack of technical ability for doing something such as loading an MP3 player , I have spoken of this here , I believe , along with (2) my general lack of much basic tech knowledge , I have been begging here for help (100% completely non-financial) , so far to no avail .
I wouldn't have stuff to transfer the music onto an MP3 player , or either CD/other physical carrier OR access it downloadable music for it , either , but that just fills out 1 ands 2 above .
There's a depressing anecdote I could tell you now , but given the circumstances which I have outlined in another post to-day , I won't detail them in this one .

You can connect an MP3 player to one of the library computers you use and load music onto it from there, but the process is definitely more involved than just sticking a CD in a walkman.
