These last two weeks of July, there's a number of performances by classical students in the region where I live (the Rhine/Waal area on the border of Holland and Germany). This past week, I saw four young student pianists (aged 13-19) perform, three of which picked pieces by Russian composer Nikolai Kapustin to play. Apparently I wasn't the only one in the audience who was unfamiliar with Kapustin. It was curious to see him surface three times, though it's not unusual to see a piano recital end with a modern piece that may or may not have jazz influences. Anyone else listen to Kapustin or similar modern composers?
