I love listening to and making ambient, techno, and electronica music. and I was wondering if any one out there with the same music tastes

Hell yes. Electronic music is the best. I even created around 200 tracks.

I love ambient!

Ambient aside, the only electronic music genre I actively listen to is psytrance. I can appreciate other genres for what they are, though.

I like quite a bit of electronic and industrial music, but I don't really know much about the different types or classifications of it.

What kind of techno are you talking about? I've got a healthy list, just that it's broad - ie. detroit, minimal, acid, Swedish, dub, tribal, etc. etc.
